Creative Hand Embroidery - Autumn 2019

Based on her own free-style approach to embroidery, textile artist Kathleen Murphy will guide you through the pleasures of ‘doodling’ with needle and thread. This course aims to dispel the stuffiness sometimes associated with hand embroidery by encouraging a more experimental approach.
Each week, through a series of samplers, you will concentrate on a different topic or technique, which will be brought together as a cloth book in the final session. Along the way you will also have the opportunity to consider both the current and historic context of British embroidery. By the end of the five weeks you will be familiar with concepts such as stitch families, embroidery sums and seasoning stitches, and should have a good grounding on which to continue your hand stitch doodling beyond the course. Suitable for all abilities from beginners to those wishing to refresh their hand embroidery skills.
