Transparency and EDI in pre-award

Professor Rachael Gooberman-Hill of the University of Bristol is leading a project, funded by Wellcome’s Institutional Strategic Support Fund, to identify ways to create greater transparency and openness, and to explore concrete ways EDI can be improved, in pre-award processes. The project will look at a range of factors affecting ways in which grant opportunities are disseminated, supported, and progressed, including ethnicity, gender, and age, as well as previous success in winning awards, and how ‘gatekeeping’ or filtration points might enable such factors to limit career opportunities.

ARMA members with an interest in EDI and/or pre-award processes are invited to a virtual workshop at 10-11.30 on November 9th to explore the preliminary findings of the project, and to explore potential issues highlighted by researchers and staff at the University of Bristol. Our goal is to make sure that we have a widely relevant 'problem set', and that our findings can be used to inform policy and process improvements. The workshop will be facilitated by consultants from MoreBrains Cooperative.

As the virtual workshop format will be small group discussions, a representative sample will be selected from the expressions of interest. The deadline for expressions of interest is 11am on 21 October. You will be notified by 26 October if you have been allocated a place at the workshop.
